As a software engineer, I studied the full life cycle of the software design process including requirements definition, prototyping, proof of concept, design, interface implementation, testing and maintenance. During the cooperative training (COOP), I had the opportunity to lead and work on two projects. The first one was about creating a timely data recording system that allows an appointed employee to insert private information to ATMs which allowed the administration to generate reports as well as manage ATM users. The second one was about creating an attendance system with new and extended features. Being an excellent student, I had achieved a GPA of 3.958 which gained the distinction of first honor. My passion for computer science provided the impetus to think about developing some applications which can serve the community. With this objective in my mind, I participated in the 5th scientific conference which aimed to develop a fitness application for smartphones in one’s native language. The application was designed to help people who want to use the calorie system to monitor their weight. Toni Morrison and bell hooks: Fighting for Truth In a society where harsh generalization and inaccurate stereotypes of African-Americans are present in everyday life, two authors have attempted to try and make a change in the way whites perceive blacks. In conversations with Toni Morrison and essays written by bell hooks, these authors help the American public realize the socially incorrect views our culture displays. In mainstream American culture and literature inaccurate representations of African-Americans has created false distortions within society. Black Death and blacks role in society has contributed to the negative portrayal of African-Americans in our culture. In bell hooks' essay "Sorrowful Black Death Is Not a Hot Ticket" she examines Hollywood's negative representation of African-Americans in films. Hooks argues that in movies, Hollywood minimizes the effect of black character deaths. The death of an African-American character evokes no sympathy from the audience. Hook's essay says, "dying that makes the audiences contemplative, sad, mindful of the transitory nature of human life has little appeal" (99). She claims that the sorrowful death of a black character in a film is of no interest to most audiences. Hook also remarks in her essay that in many Hollywood movies, Black Death is frequently very violent. The death of blacks is often downplayed and hooks remarks that " there can be no serious representation of death and dying when the character are African-Americans" (hooks 99). She argues that the value of black life is worth nothing to the audiences and the death of an African-American is similar to dead meat. In both essays, bell hooks and Toni Morrisons address the issue of racial inequality in their depiction of Hollywood's view towards African-Americans. The lack of emphasis of the portrayal African-American death can lead to cruel generalizations and stereotypes of an entire culture. White male scriptwriters for Hollywood must take a step back from the social norm and come to terms with reality. They must understand that violent Black Death might be a hot seller at the box office, however in turn it further shapes our inaccurate view of African-Americans. In Toni Morrison and bell hooks' work we see a common theme that has originated in American culture which portrays the lack of education we display towards the African-American population in our country.

A Review of School Funding In Texas

The article shows the various efforts that the state of Texas has implemented in order to source funds for its schools.The first laws enacted for the purpose of school funding were the Gilmer-Aikin Act which was passed in 1949. Under this law, the funds would be sourced from state and local donors. In my opinion, this is a very comprehensive law because it provided for a top to bottom reorganization of the state funding system (Coalition to Invest in Texas Schools, 2004).The current law right now is the â€Å"Robin Hood System† (Coalition to Invest In Texas Schools, 2004). From the name itself, the funding for schools would be sourced from the wealthy districts of Texas. The aim of this system is to ensure equity in financing the schools.Soliciting the help of the affluent states of Texas is a good way of fostering cooperation among the districts of Texas. It would help the low income districts to use their funds for other activities (Coalition to Invest in Texas Schools, 2004 ).In 2004, this system of using the revenue of wealthy districts was able to generate $1.2 billion annually which was used as budget by the Foundation Program of Finance. Putting an end to the Robin Hood System proved to be a difficult decision as the local government of Texas would have to find substitute funding in order to support the schools (Coalition to Invest in Texas Schools, 2004).The Robin Hood System became very controversial and was even the reason for the filing of a class suit by more than 300 school districts. The main argument of the plaintiffs was that by levying the maximum rate on property tax, it became equal to the ad valorem tax levied by the state, which violated Texas Constitution (Coalition to Invest in Texas Schools, 2004).The case needed three years before it was resolved. In September 2004, a decision was handed down in favor of the plaintiffs. Charles Pham Evolution Dr. Hellack Feb. 4th, 2016 Between 1871 and 1984, the shape and thickness of intertidal snail Littorina obtusata has changed dramatically in northern parts of New England. Shells that were collected in the 19th century were observed to possess characteristics of being high-spired with thin walls, while those collected between 1982 and 1984 were low-spired with thick walls. It was noted that an intertidal crab Carcinus maenas which preys on L. obtusata had ironically expanded its range into the northern parts of New England around 1900. (Seeley, 1986). Considering the significance of these two various characteristics, one may hypothesize that the various shell morphology is due to speciation (Ha) or, with careful experimentations, another proposed hypothesis (Ho) can be that the change in L. obtusata shell morphology was due to natural selection in response to the predation of C. maenas. The shape and thickness of the shell (dependent variable) is a function to the presence of C. maenas (independent variab le). Rapid morphological transitions in organisms have been difficult to witness, especially for ecologist and paleontologist. This has raised concerns for some evolutionary biologist whom suggest that transitional forms are not visible in the fossil record and represent speciation events.
